CHILLIWACK SINGER/SONGWRITER EMBARKS UPON
“TOUR OF HEALING HOPE” IN HURRICANE-DEVASTATED
STATES
, WHILE CD RECEIVES NATIONAL RADIO
DISTRIBUTION IN CANADA
!  (See below...)

PHOTOGRAPHER: PETE FRIESEN, YARROW, BC

Debbie Fortnum’s heart is as passionate as her music, and both are beginning to make an international humanitarian mark.  On October 26th, 2005 , while her newly released CD is being distributed to every Canadian Christian Radio Station (along with selected USA stations), she will board a plane to New Orleans to begin five days of concerts to the weary relief workers and victims of loss throughout the Gulf States regions devastated by the recent hurricanes.  Her team will also be distributing 500 backpacks to Hurricane Children, and 500 new Beanie Babies from the Ty Beanie Baby Company.

Through her music and ballet entourage, Debbie has been involved in various missionary and relief efforts, including the Tsunami Relief effort (her To Love and to Be Loved CD release concert raised $6,000 for that tragedy) and AIDS orphans in Uganda, Africa (to whom she has personally ministered).  The new CD is already in the TOP 5% of all Canadian CD’s sold in 2005, and that is without radio airplay.

Fortnum, Chilliwack wife and mother of three, is an advocate / artist with Canadian Food for the Hungry and will also be partnering with other organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse and Impact Ministries while in the Gulf region.

In October, her new CD will be distributed to over 50 Contemporary Christian / Gospel Radio Stations and programs across Canada, via Phoenix Five Ltd, an Ontario-based Radio Distribution and Tracking company.

Along with national radio airplay, the UK’s largest Christian broadcasting network has recently picked up Debbie’s single and title track, “To Love and to Be Loved” due to an impressive 9 out of 10 stars review by a popular UK magazine journalist.

She has appeared on international TV, as well as the national Canadian television show 100 Huntley Street; her songs are being sung in churches and radio stations around the world; she has shared the stage with Juno Award-winning singer/songwriter Brian Doerksen of Abbotsford; three of Debbie’s songs join Juno Award-winning artists Lianna Klassen and Steve Bell on Canada’s Gospel Music Foundation’s Windows of Hope CD; she also shares space on other compilation CD’s with other award-winning USA artists ; her original songs have been recorded by international artists Bobby Michaels (Musicianaries International) and DuSharme Lanusa (Miss Oklahoma) and she has been involved in performance and leadership in numerous national and international conferences and events.

She continues to perform across Canada and the USA and her latest CD To Love and to Be Loved will be available at all Blessings stores across Canada in October 2005, and is currently available at Verses Books, CD Plus in Cottonwood Mall, and Welcoming Treasures in Yarrow.  During the month of October, all proceeds from her CD will go towards her Gulf States “Tour of Healing Hope” for hurricane victims.

To Love and to Be Loved

To Love and to Be Loved is the latest CD release from Canadian Christian artist Debbie Fortnum.  Featuring twelve original songs of faith, love, hope and healing, To Love and to Be Loved showcases Debbie’s rich, beautiful vocals and songwriting talent – the 'title track', To Love and to Be Loved, is a song of heartfelt hope, honest lyrics born out of Debbie’s own first-hand life experience; “Believe” is both a prayer to God for strength and a beautiful expression of personal faith, while “Like An Eagle” is a gentle ballad that poetically expresses God’s love and the intimacy we have with Him.  With top-notch production from producer Chris Janz, a superb backing band and a great contemporary sound, Debbie delivers stirring performances on every track - always deep, always passionate – she sings from the heart, to the heart.  To Love and to Be Loved is being serviced nationally to Christian Radio across Canada as well as to key US Christian Radio Stations.  To Love and to Be Loved from Debbie Fortnum showcases an exciting Canadian artist who is rich in talent and who has a heart for the hurting, a heart for missions and a heart for God.

CANADIAN FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY PRESS RELEASE MARCH 2005:

Canadian Food for the Hungry International would like to publicly thank Debbie Fortnum and everyone else - the almost 100 individuals who gave of their time and talent (servers, CD tables, hospitality, dancers - including Debbie's own two daughters, choir, parents, make-up, etc.), who helped make her two recent concerts huge successes.

Here's some excerpts from a couple of comments Debbie received:

"What a beautiful evening!  All I can say is that was an incredible and beautiful worship experience!"

"My heart was overwhelmed last night with the creative inspiration of so many artistic talents.  It was so beautiful to see and hear . . .  It filled my senses and my soul and moved me to tears.  I simply drank it in."

Not only was it a beautiful evening, but the effect of the concert will be felt half-way around the world, as the Canadian Concert raised almost $4,200 CA for CFHI's long-term Asia tsunami response, and the USA Concert raised almost $1,500 US for Food for the Hungry in the USA's Asia tsunami response.

A DVD of the Canadian Concert be available soon!  If you are interested, please contact  Debbie@FarAwayWorship.com

How did Debbie's little CD Release Party turn into two major CD Release - Tsunami Relief Concerts?  Here's Debbie's own words on how the "little party" to celebrate the release of her brand new CD "To Love and to Be Loved" has now become two "major" concerts . . .

"When the tsunami hit, I knew in the pit of my soul, my heart, my gut -- you know what I mean here -- that my plans for a little CD Release party needed to change a bit.  A lot. We turned on a dime, and my "Yay God Party" became much more about “Tsunami Relief” than a “CD Release”.  We knew God was in it when businesses, churches, individuals, artists, dancers, and helpers just kept getting on board and coming alongside me in order to pull two major concerts off in a few short weeks!"

WHAT'S BEING SAID ABOUT 'TO LOVE & 2 B LOVED'...

FEBRUARY 2005

Edmonton

I am writing in regards to Debbie's new CD, "To Love and To Be Loved."
IT IS AWESOME! I have been using the CD to bless others and to
facilitate their healing journey. I am the Director of Care Ministries
at Beulah Alliance Church in Edmonton, Alberta. I work with many
hurting people and have always worked songs into their healing journeys
and counselling. Her new CD, "To Love and To Be Loved," is like a
soundtrack for the restorative work God is doing in their lives! I
have "assigned" her CD as homework for many of the people I work with.
They have found it to be an excellent resource to guide and encourage them on
their healing journey.

This past weekend, we had our Soul Journey (Recovery Ministry)
leadership training retreat. We used songs from the CD at various
points throughout the weekend to minister and to teach. I feel so
strongly about the impact of this new CD, that I blessed each of our
lay-leaders with the gift of your CD. They were extremely grateful!
To me, the CD provides hope and direction through areas of personal and
spiritual healing, with the powerful words of scripture incorporated
into the music. This CD will spend a LONG time being used as ministry
and counselling resource in my library! I have been a therapist for
over six years now and typically find a song or two on a CD that I use
for "healing purposes," but I have never encountered an entire CD that
has such powerful healing theme throughout.

God bless you, Debbie for your commitment to the Word of God, and letting us
glimpse your heart through the vulnerability of your music.

Blessings,
Beth Murray
Director of Care Ministries
Beulah Alliance Church
Edmonton, Alberta

FEBRUARY 2005

"An inordinate wealth of high quality "Christian" music has flowed from north of the American border over the years; Steve Bell, Brian Doerksen, Heather Clark, Capstone, and the eclectic Bruce Cockburn (with equally eclectic theology!) are just a few. Add to those ranks the sweet (not sickly) dulcetones of Ms Fortnum, whose style may be loosely compared to that of Sheila Walsh or Twila Paris (but with a touch more panache!)  It's over five years since her debut 'Oasis of Thirst' appeared. The wait's been worthwhile, though. This disc marks a notable progression in both strength of songwriting and quality of sound, while credit must also be given to the multi-instrumental work of producer/engineer Chris Janz.

Debbie's competent alto vocals do much justice to this batch of self-penned tunes, and while she sticks mainly within piano-based inspirational pop ballad parameters - where she is clearly most comfortable and proficient - she does allow some breadth of scope, adding, for example, hints of funk and a touch of gospel here and there. Lyrics are thoroughly soaked in the scriptures, yet they remain fresh and original, while the spiritual depth ingrained in every stanza is both impressive and moving.

Especially appealing are the choruses of 'Imagine, immersion' and 'Believe'. The first came with Debbie being "wonderstruck" by the truths of Ephesians...

"Can you imagine your immersion / Into purest Love? / Can you imagine your immersion / Into promises that always come true?".

The latter song was inspired by a prayer made by her great grandfather (x4!) - Dr. Andrew Murray, a pioneering Scots-born revivalist preacher in South Africa, whose life-story is worth checking out. Debbie's voice soars on these tracks - as, too, on the simply effective 'Like an eagle' (with fine guitar break) - where her introductory comments encourage the listener's spirit to likewise rise on high. Meanwhile, 'He bore my sorrows' is a beautiful meditation on the Cross. All in all - a charming experience of true "inspiration" - definitely deserving of a wider audience."
