I had the opportunity to visit all 500+ my adorable 'kids' (yes, I 'adopted' a village full of AIDS orphans in Uganda!) in the summer of 2001. I could hardly contain my tears as they came running up to our Canadian Food for the Hungry International van that afternoon when we pulled into the village after a long, hot drive. They were utterly beautiful. Most of them had been orphaned by AIDS. Most kids had torn and stained school uniforms. No shoes. They had no toilets. A mud school with no desks or chairs. A church with no roof. Little mud huts everywhere.... You get the picture. After I fell in love with my own sponsored child, Brenda, and all of her quiet, parent-less friends, I wanted to somehow facilitate a new beginning for them. And so, I 'gave them' my hobbie. It costs a lot of time and money to make these cards, and it doesn't bring in much return, but my prayer is that sharing the beauty will help us all 'share the love'. My privilege of raising awareness for them and millions of other AIDS orphans and victims just like them, as well as all the other 'last', 'lost' and 'least' of the world -- is exactly that: a privilege. I have been blessed ... to be a blessing!
